Below is the list of few tips on how to clear your own blocked drain:

Flush the area using boiling water

This method is typically the easiest and quickest way for clearing the blocked drain. You are just required to slowly pour huge amount of boiling water in the blocked drain. This needs to be done in several stages so that you give enough time for it to work. Try pouring boiling water for at least thrice after every few seconds and you would be able to get rid of the blocked drain.

Clean the area using coat hanger hook

You just need to straighten your wire coat hanger and bend it on one end for having a small hook. Then push the wire hook into your drain and try to take out the things which have clogged the drain. After trying to remove all the nasty stuffs from your drain, pour boiling water over it in several stages like how we discussed above.

Vinegar and baking soda

If boiling water and coat hanger doesn’t provide you the desired result then the problem is even bigger so you need to do something else. You just need to mix around half cup of vinegar along with 1 cup of baking soda. Just pour this mixture into your drain. Then pour some hot water into your drain. Leave it overnight, and then in the morning, flush it down with more hot water.

Caustic soda

Add around 3 cups of caustic soda to approximately 2 liters water. Mix this well and when this mixture starts to heat-up and fizz, flush it down the blocked drain by using hot water. Caustic soda is also known as sodium hydroxide and it causes nasty chemical burns. So, it is advisable to always use rubber gloves and eye protection while using it for clearing your blocked drain.

If the above mentioned tips don’t work out then the problem is not something which you can handle yourself and it requires professional help. So consider hiring a good and reliable professional plumber for clearing your blocked drain.
