Victor Apartments (The): Ron enjoys some of Victor Harbor in the Fleurieu Peninsula region of South Australia

The South Coast has long been a favourite holiday destination. It's Adelaide's holiday playground a little more than an hour's drive from the heart of the city where many come for the cooler summer climate and the chance to explore all that Victor Harbor has to offer.

Families have been coming here for generations like the Cudmore dynasty who made their money from pastoralism and built the impressive Victor Harbor landmark known as Adare Castle.

Diane Colton, Victor Apartments: "The castle was built by the youngest son of the Cudmore family. The Cudmore family were graziers in South Australia. They came out from Scotland, had a pretty hard life initially and then made a lot of money."

Today Diane Colton and her family own the strategically placed apartments directly opposite this 19th century Victor icon. Built in the 1960s the Victor Apartments are all about space and light and the view.

From the balcony of Adare you take in the great sweep of Victor with The Causeway, The Bluff and all the rest. The apartments offer the perfect base from which a family or several families for that matter can explore the attractions at the bottom of the Fleurieu Peninsula.

From old surfing magazines and books to other memorabilia, memories of endless summers are a feature of this bright and breezy apartment. All the apartments and the nearby Bed and Breakfast "Cheri on Sea" feature artworks from the Chilli Art Design Gallery in Adelaide. Some of which are the creations of Diane's daughter Julia Colton. They're a talented family, this lot with an impeccable eye for real estate.

Diane Colton, Victor Apartments: "Cheri on Sea was owned by the Moritz family. The Moritz family were graziers from up in the territory and they owned the McCracken land and used to fly their helicopter in for their summer and holiday here."

Diane can arrange for dinner to be brought in with musical accompaniment from yet another talented daughter Yvette Colton on the harp. For us she played Gershwin's "Summertime".

The Victor Apartments are located on Adare Street at Victor Harbor. For bookings contact 0450 798952. More ?'s email info@postcards-sa.com.au
