'Acoustic Peacock': Ron soaks up the sounds of folk, jazz and blues in the Fleurieu Peninsula region of South Australia
Willunga is a classic heritage town about forty minutes drive south of Adelaide. Dig a little deeper and you'll stumble across a feast of folk, jazz and blues - and all of it homegrown at the 'Acoustic Peacock'.
Devotees of local music gather regularly at the venue which has increased in popularity since opening in November 2009.
David Greenslade, 'Acoustic Peacock': "This is a great venue. It's basically a little hub for nurturing local musicians, poetry, compositions of any sort and any genre."
Young singer/songwriter, Tom Boerema was the 'Open Mike' artist the day the Postcards crew visited and according to organiser Dave Greenslade there are plenty brave enough to wear their hearts on their sleeves in front of a supportive audience.
David Greenslade, 'Acoustic Peacock' "There is a huge number of people writing their own material but they have no access to a venue or an audience. We get a discreet audience that come along and support the artists - they actually listen - they don't stand at the bar and talk."
The music and the people combine to make 'Acoustic Peacock' a very special venue but so too does the 170 year old barn where patrons can enjoy wonderful wood fired pizzas.
All of this was once a mixed farm dating back to the very earliest days of European settlement in the district. Wander around this piece of South Australian heritage and you'll come across a quirk of history like the side saddle mounting block where the original owners kept and maintained the ladies' saddles.
Owner of the Willunga Peacock Farm, Julie Studdart has converted the old side saddle mounting block and saddle room into a cosy Bed and Breakfast where guests can really indulge themselves.
Julie Stuttard, Willunga Peacock Farm: "Guests make a whole weekend of it. They come down and stay here and on Friday night they go to the "Acoustic Peacock' and take in the sights around the place."
