Riverfront Retreat at Kingston-on-Murray: Ron enjoys some relaxation in the Riverland region of South Australia
Sunshine in a bottle in a Riverland setting that takes some beating. The Banrock Station experience is a remarkable one featuring fine wine and food and for the more adventurous a self-guided tour. Depending on the seasons and the wetting and drying process, it can have you walking across a flooded wetland or perhaps the dry and firm base of the Murray River floodplain.
It's just one of the options available to those who stay awhile in the heart of the Riverland at Kingston-on-Murray - a good two hundred and fifty kilometres north east of Adelaide.
And a perfect base from which to sample this part of the Riverland is the Riverfront Retreat owned by Debbie White. For years Debbie and her husband Andrew have run their Golden Leisure Houseboat fleet out of Kingston-on-Murray, but in more recent times they've been able offer travelers a stationary but no less spectacular view of this part of the mighty Murray.
From the loungeroom or one of several bedrooms, guests can take in the afternoon glow as the evening sets on the river. From the front porch of the Riverfront Retreat, guests are mesmerized by the Murray. And just a short paddle from here the more adventurous can access the wonders of the Loch Luna Game Reserve.
Debbie White, Riverfront Retreat: "It's right in our backyard and it's been compared to Kakadu. A lot of people who have been to Kakadu have said they love it. You're just in the middle of nowhere, but you're still close to everything. Canoeing is a really fantastic experience and a lot of people bring their own canoes. We can actually get people to take you in for a canoe tour if you wish or the other way is through the MV Loch Luna boat tour which is pretty special as well."
For a great break in the very heart of the Riverland, head to the Riverfront Retreat at Kingston-on-Murray. The retreat offers great family accommodation for up to six people from $150 per night. To book contact Debbie White on 8588 1212.
Carl Doubikin runs regular tours into Loch Luna Game Reserve and the Banrock Station Wetland complex is a short five minute drive away. If you have any further questions please email info@postcards-sa.com.au
