Padthaway Estate: With Ron Kandelaars in the South East/Limestone Coast Region of South Australia

The Padthaway Wine region is about 300 kilometres southeast of Adelaide and is home to some world famous whites and reds. The tourism marketers refer to it as the gateway to the Limestone Coast but turn off the Riddoch Highway into Padthaway Estate and the gateway opens out onto a world of fabulous wine, heritage and luxurious comfort.

Today it's the perfect getaway for those in need of a little pampering with all that a weary traveller might want at the end of a long day. The old stable is now the cellar door, showing off a range of sparkling wines.

It's most well known is the Eliza range, named after Eliza Lawson, the matriarch who, along with husband Robert, oversaw the development of much of what you see at Padthaway. They came here from the Adelaide Hills in 1847 and spent their early years in the nearby cottage.

The shearing shed houses a specially made Champagne Basket Press. But it was pastoral wealth that created all of this. Under the front entrance of the main homestead, the keystone tells a key part of the Padthaway story. The initials E L - stand for Eliza Lawson.

Today's Padthaway Estate experience offers the Limestone Coast visitor a wonderful blend of southeast heritage... much of it created courtesy of the sheep's back. The more recent history owes a lot to the rustic press and the grapes planted not that long ago.

It's all part of a unique blend of wine, heritage and luxurious comfort at Padthaway Estate a good three hours drive from Adelaide. If you have any further questions please email info@postcards-sa.com.au
