Starkey Zone Photography: Ron marvels at the images in the Adelaide City region of South Australia
Enter Ashley Starkey's backyard studio in Camden Park and you enter the Starkey Zone. Ashley is a self-taught photographer and artist with a website all about eliminating the middleman.
"The Starkey Zone is a culmination of 20 years of photography," said Ashley. "It started as an idea that I could sell my prints without a gallery and I could licence them in commercial applications. I don't need a gallery - it's on-line, it's available to the whole world."
It's a short walk from his computer to his backyard but it's where many of Ashley's photographic images are borne. Some are quite traditional like the first buds of spring. Other shots are a little more challenging like a jet stream thousands of feet above Adelaide. Then there are the amazing images of swirling light and colour captured by throwing his camera into the air.
As an internet artist without gallery owners and agents to consider, the possibilities are endless. Ashley's work finds its way onto CD covers, web designs, and posters.
