Snugglepot and Cuddlepie

Snugglepot and Cuddlepie (The Adventures of): Ron reviews the performance of these Australian icons in the Adelaide City region of South Australia

There are strange goings on at the Adelaide Festival Centre as tiny gumnuts explore their little patch of the Aussie bush.

Meet Snugglepot and Cuddlepie - two characters conjured from the childhood imaginings of famous author May Gibbs. The first edition came out in 1916 with the two gumnuts becoming a part of our collective consciousness.

Snugglepot and Cuddlepie are two curious and adventurous gumnuts out and about in a bush setting populated by those bad bad Banksia Men.

May Gibbs was born 130 years ago at a time when the Aussie bush probably held more sway over many kids than it does in today's suburban world. But the charm and magic of May's popular books is still required reading in many Australian homes come bedtime.

It's a baffling world for a young gumnut and, as you'd expect, those nasty Banksia Men want the bush for themselves. Mrs Snake's up to less good than usual and wouldn't you know it those strange human beings are lurking in the shadows of the Festival Centre audience.

The Adventures of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie and Little Ragged Blossom are on show until Wednesday.
