E-Type Jazz

E-type Jazz at the Fringe Festival: Lisa grooves along to these cool tunes in the Adelaide City region of South Australia

It's a lunchtime gig and the special Postcards performance at the Royal Oak Hotel is a way of saying thankyou and goodbye to one of the many city pubs that's supported this long-lasting jazz combo for more than a decade now.

Adelaide band, E-Type Jazz increasingly finds itself playing overseas these days following the success of their 8 albums.

Pianist Matthew Carey, bass player Mike Haynes, drummer Damian Eldridge and the two ladies up front Katrina Ryan and sax player Beth Lyon, all met while studying music at Adelaide Uni. Since then their jazz jaunt has taken them across the world to LA and New York as part of last year's G'Day USA promotion. That involved concerts with the likes of Hugh Jackman and gala dinners all aimed at showcasing Aussie products and talents to the nation that invented this musical genre.

Now pub gigs like this one are a rarity but it's a reminder of how the band started thirteen years ago. The G'Day USA tour and concerts supporting the likes of George Benson, Harry Connick Junior and Rod Stewart has gained them plenty of exposure and a possible recording deal in Los Angeles. Along the way they've bumped into a few Aussie celebrities as well - like Olivia Newton John who was dancing during a gig in New York.

E-type Jazz is playing at the Fringe Festival at the Garden of Unearthly Delights on Saturday 17 March 2007.
