An icon around the world, Wynns Coonawarra Estate is located in the heart of the Coonawarra, Australia’s foremost red wine district. Set to the backdrop of a superbly maintained vineyard, the historic Wynns winery and cellar door building, along with their outstanding wines makes Wynns “must see” during your next visit to the Coonawarra.

Scotsman John Riddoch founded what is now Wynns Coonawarra Estate in the late 19th century. He planted his first vines in 1891 and by 1896 had completed the estate’s famous three gabled winery, an image that is reflected on the Wynns Coonawarra Estate labels to this day. It wasn’t until 1951 however, that two Melbourne wine merchants, Samuel and David Wynn, purchased Riddoch’s original vineyards and renamed the winery. Today, Wynns Coonawarra Estate is the region’s single largest vineyard holder, with the best and most established vineyards in the district.

Principal among the brand’s extraordinary range of red wines is the Wynns Coonawarra Estate John Riddoch Cabernet Sauvignon. This is the definitive Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon, a wine of enormous concentration and power. Since it was first made in 1982 it has won a host of medals and in 2000 respected wine writer Huon Hooke named it as one of Australia’ top red wines of all time.

In 1990 following an outstanding vintage, the Wynns Coonawarra Estate Michael Shiraz was introduced. Named after the revered Michael Hermitage it is powerful wine of abundant fruit and oak that is only made in exceptional vintages.

Popularly referred to as the “Black Label”, The Wynns Coonawarra Estate Cabernet Sauvignon has delighted a generation of Australian palates. Celebrated for its outstanding cellaring potential, it has been described by James Halliday as’ the most important Cabernet is Australia with a magnificent history”. The sensational line up of red wines also includes the superb value Wynns Coonawarra Estate Cabernet Shiraz Merlot. Completing the line up are the Wynns Coonawarra Estate Chardonnay and Riesling, two white wines that display the Coonawarra’s affinity with these varietals.

For a quintessential Coonawarra experience, there’s no winemaker like Wynns Coonawarra Estate.
