Woolshed Emporium: At Mannum in the Murraylands region of South Australia

The Woolshed Emporium and Woolshed Market is a fantastic place to shop. “We’ve got everything here, including the kitchen sink!” enthuses co-operator Rhonda Porter.
The business’ namesake and home was built in 1854 as a woolshed for Captain William Randell, founder of Mannum. In the years following, the woolshed has adopted many identities, including life as a customs house and as an engineer’s factory.
The building in its current form as the Woolshed Emporium and Woolshed Market has been operating since 1993. However, June of 2002 heralded an exciting phase in the Woolshed Emporium. Operator Rhonda Porter welcomed Peter Marschall into the fold. Peter established the Woolshed Market, a stall system of new and second-hand giftware. Local producers rent out bays from Peter, in order to have an outlet that is open for business seven days a week.
The Woolshed Emporium and Woolshed Market mutually complement each other. Each operator is very careful to avoid doubling up on stock.
The Woolshed Emporium and Woolshed Market service both local residents and visitors. Each stocks a wide range of holiday accessories, giftware, books, games, hardware and garden supplies and equipment. ‘Shackies’ are also catered for if they happen to leave their can opener at home or discover that urgent repairs are required and tools are needed to carry out such work.
Sightseers can find the Woolshed Emporium and the Woolshed Market on Randell Street, directly opposite the Visitor Information Centre. Alternatively, if you are coming from the river the dual-business is just along from the ferries.
