Hardys Tintara Winery Hardys Tintara Winery

Nestled in the beautiful McLaren Vale region is a winery with a history that South Australia can be proud of. Hardys Winery was established in 1853 by Thomas Hardy, who was an enterprising young man who had a vision that today has come to fruition. Thomas Hardy left England in 1850 to come to South Australia - the Colony was barely 14 years old - and after many different fields of employment including working for John Reynell (the founder of Chateau Reynella Wine Dynasty), Thomas had made huge profits. After marrying Johanna in 1853, he planted his first of many acres of wines and the first Vintage was shipped to England in 1857, creating history. By 1859 his production was around 1,500 gallons and in 1876 he purchased Dr Kelly's Tintara Winery and Vineyards. Two years later he acquired the Mortlock Flour Mill in McLaren Vale and converted it to a Winery which still today is Hardys Red Wine facility.

Today The Hardys Tintara Winery is set in the heart of McLaren Vale, 45 kilometers South of Adelaide, and is rich in the culture, tradition and heritage of the region. The company's premium Red wine making facility produces wines of rare richness and quality - such as Eileen Hardy Shiraz and the Thomas Hardy Cabernet Sauvignon - and after more than a century of change and growth, Tintara is now experiencing a return to tradition as the winemakers rediscover the time honoured traditions of basket pressing and open fermentation. In 1912 Thomas Hardy passed away, but his memory is honoured in a fine memorial erected by the townspeople of McLaren Vale, in gratitude for his services to the district and to the wine industry.

You can experience the unique characteristics of Hardys Wines at the Tintara Cellar Door which is set in the Old Bond Store, one of the many fascinating historical buildings of the Winery. Hardys Tintara Winery is open all year round, 9am - 5pm weekdays, 10am - 5pm on weekends and is closed Christmas Day & Good Friday. Hardys Tintara Winery is located in Main Road at McLaren Vale.
