Southern Vales B&B: McLaren Vale: In the Fleurieu Peninsula region of South Australia
Southern Vales Bed & Breakfast is a 15 yr. old colonial style home with full return verandahs and is set one a one and a half acre property with sweeping views of vineyards and distant hills. We have accommodation available for up to ten guests. Fully airconditioned and heated by wood burning fires, the guest area consists of two queen bed rooms with ensuites and another two queen bed rooms which share a large modern bathroom. There is also a twin bed room suitable for situations such as Mother/ Daughter etc. Bathrobes are provided in all rooms.
Guests are given keys to allow them freedom of movement in and out as they wish. Bike hire is available and rates are $20.00 per day The Mclaren Vale area is well suited for bike riding and is in the centre of the recently opened bike trail from Noarlunga to Willunga.
A large lounge/dining room is available to guests at all times, with tea & coffee facilities always on hand.
A buffet style breakfast and country style cooked breakfast is served in the dining room and is included in the tariff. There is a gazebo off the verandah near the dining room and breakfast is often served outdoors in the warmer months, overlooking the vineyard and native garden.
There are five restaurants and a hotel within a ten minute stroll, including the excellent "Limeburners" and "The Barn" , both of which are actually on the corner of our street!...and Mclaren Vale centre is within easy walking distance. Five wineries with cellar door sales are within a 700 metre radius, including Maxwells, Marienberg, Brewery Hill, Hardys and the makers of Australias "Wine of the year" ..Tatachilla Wines. McLaren Vale Olive Groves is 5 minutes away, as is The Avocado Farm. The beautiful,unspoilt Maslin Beach is an easy 8 minute drive away, and watching the sun set in the Gulf from Maslins in something that should not be missed! About 35 minutes drive away is the lovely Handorf, a German style village, nestled in the Adelaide hills and boasting wonderful eateries and craft stores with something for every taste!
Victor Harbor, with it's wonderful Granite Island horse drawn tram to take you to the penguin colonies, is only 40 minutes South. Also now on Granite Island, is a new floating aquarium which is quite unique.
The drive from Victor Harbor to Goolwa takes in Middleton, both quaint and interesting seaside towns with lovely views of the Gulf and plenty of antique stores to browse in. Horseshoe Bay, with the "Flying Fish Cafe" is a must see!.... From Goolwa, it is a pleasant 40 minute drive back to Mclaren Vale for maybe a glass or two before a restful nights sleep at your B&B!
Tariffs at this time (April) 2001) are $110.00 for the ensuited rooms and $100.00 for the rooms sharing bathroom facilities. There is a surcharge on single nights on long weekends and special event weekends.
