Penola Festival Naomi's Villa - Penola Festival

The May holiday long weekend offers the perfect time to sample the delights of the Coonawarra as well as the heritage of nearby Penola. Commencing Friday the Penola Festival celebrates the literary and artistic heritage of the town... the oldest in the State's Southeast. Over the years it's been the home of the famous Australian poet Adam Lindsay Gordon and the educator and co-founder of the Sisters of Saint Joseph - Mary MacKillop.

Naomi's Villa offers the ideal base from which to explore the town and the district. Built in 1904 it was the home of Naomi Temple.

Penola's first hairdresser with the present lounge room of this gracious bed and breakfast once serving as the local salon. Another centrally located Bed and Breakfast is Sarah's Cottage. This cosy 1870's cottage has been beautifully restored and is bounded by peaceful gardens and parks.

The Penola Festival features a Writer's Weekend at the local community library as well as dance, theatre and music. It runs from the 12th to the 15th of May. For further information contact the Penola Tourist Information Centre on 8737-2855.
