Murray Bridge Regional Gallery: Lisa visits this river side city on the heart of the Murraylands region
Tucked away off Murray Bridge's main street is a recent addition to the Murrayland's art scene - the town's Regional Gallery. It's in the old Town Hall and according to Tracey Curl, it had to undergo a massive transformation.
"It was the side annexe of the Town Hall which had a very old cement floor and an open space where the pigeons were nesting. So it's been beautifully upgraded - it's fantastic," said Tracey.
The gallery opened in 2004 and features regular touring exhibitions from regional Australia. Many of its exhibitions are sponsored by Country Arts, SA. While the big cities have their own galleries this one is devoted to artists like Rhonda Eden, a local, whose work is a celebration in twigs and papier mache of the wading birds that flock to the River Murray and the Coorong each year.
"Rhonda is a Callington artist who specialises in papier mache. That's her medium so they're fantastic."
If you're in town, spare some time for the Murray Bridge Regional Gallery. It's ever changing exhibitions are confirmation of the artistic talent on show in regional Australia. If you have any further questions please email info@postcards-sa.com.au
