Mount Hurtle Winery - Geoff Merrill Wines: In the Fleurieu Peninsula region of South Australia

An Englishman named Mostyn Owen purchased 200 acres of prime Reynella Hillside and built a winery in 1897. Mt Hurtle, named after Adelaide's first Mayor, was innovative for its time, using the principal of gravity feed throughout the cellars.

When Geoff Merrill purchased the Mount Hurtle winery in 1985 it was run down and dilapidated. It required years of love, hard work and a special vision by Geoff and his supporters to restore the winery to its former glory.

The original winery retains an almost Tuscan charm and copes perfectly with the rigors of modern day winemaking.

Famous for the large family of geese, ducks and swans that inhabit the dam at the entrance to the winery, Mount Hurtle exudes old world charm And indeed is a heritage listed building.
