MFP Wetlands
You might remember last year on "Postcards" we looked at the Wetlands project created around the entrance to the Port River by the MFP. This is over 300 hectares making it the largest artificially created urban wetlands in the world. The wetlands role is to act as a green filter for the polluted stormwater before it washes into the Gulf. Ordinarily you can't visit this project but next weekend the wetlands will be open as part of the Open Garden Scheme. The tour shows the wetlands from first plantings right through to mature growth. The Wetlands are open 10am to 4.30pm both Saturday and Sunday. Start at Barker Inlet- follow the signs from Magazine Road at Wingfield and there is parking available.
