Mediaeval Festival Mediaeval Fayre & Ashlee House

Last year Postcards took a trip back in time to Medieval days, a period which these South Australians love to recreate. "What I am doing is lacing him up before we put on the suit we start at the waist." This chain mail is authentic and weighs about twenty kilos. Believe it or not this is a social activity, all part of some serious historic fun. And it's all happening again next weekend at the Old Mount Gambier jail. The Mediaeval Fayre will also include jousting and archery. Ashlee House was built in 1908 and was a key part of the Mount's social scene for many years. Much of the furniture in this luxurious Bed and Breakfast has an interesting story to tell, some of it transported from the United States, while other pieces were crafted from timbers washed ashore during some of the South East's notorious shipwrecks. Bed and Breakfast at Ashlee House 61 Penola Rd Mt Gambier is $110 per couple. Bookings can be made on (08) 8723 2150. The Mediaeval Fayre will be held at the Old Mount Gambier Jail next Saturday and Sunday (2 & 3rd Oct 1999) admission $5 per day Adults and children free.
