Jacobs CreekJacobs Creek Wines: In the Barossa Valley region of South Australia

Set on the banks of the Barossa's most renowned waterway, the grand new Jacob's Creek Visitor Centre is a spectacular sight among the picturesque landscape.

The Orlando Wyndham cellar door at Rowland Flat will be replaced by the state-of-the-art facility, which has been designed to harmonise with the natural setting. With specialised areas for public wine tastings, the visitor centre encompasses a fully equipped restaurant as well as a gallery area which highlights historical facts of the Barossa and the Jacob's Creek brand.

Entry to the centre has been constructed between Grant Burge Wines and the Jacob's Creek bridge, taking visitors across the waterway and passing through the rejuvenated native environment. Large windows provide breathtaking views of the Barossa's patchwork of vineyards, grazing land and hills. It's location is the birthplace of the Barossa Valley and could not be more symbolic of the history of the Barossa and Orlando Wines.

This is where Johannes Menge lived when he was sent to survey the Barossa at the direction of Colonel William Light and where William Jacob, assistant surveyor to Light, settled in 1840, giving his name not only to the local creek but also to Australia's most successful wine. It was also not far from here that Johann Gramp, founder of Orlando, planted his first vineyard - beginning more than 150 years of winemaking heritage.

Where possible, Orlando used natural and recycled materials to build the facility, including recycled grey ironbark timbers from a demolished Queensland bridge to construct a massive trellis system extending from outside and through the pavilion building.

The Jacob's Creek Visitor Centre is a world-class facility at the southern gateway to the Barossa that will draw international attention and visitors to the region. The centre has been built on environmentally sustainable development principles incorporating many natural, alternative, energy-saving systems and recycled materials. It is a modern interpretation of the early, utilitarian Barossa Valley form, and is evocative of the viticulture industry with a massive trellis system running through the building. Its colours and materials are traditional in origin and blend sensitively with the landscape.
