The Tintara name has been a part of Hardy’s for over 125 years, and not just as a winery. Over a long period, the Tintara branded wines have built an enviable reputation for their robust richness and quality.

In more recent times, the Tintara Shiraz and Grenache have grown in recognition, both produced from varieties that have stood the test of time and excelled in the McLaren Vale region.

Here is living history…… wines being made using much of the equipment Thomas Hardy installed at Tintara, from low yielding, concentrated fruit off old vines, producing dark, rich, opulent wines, showing exceptional structure and flavour.

The premium - and internationally renown - wines made at Tintara include the multi award winning Eileen Hardy Shiraz, Thomas Hardy Cabernet Sauvignon and the Tintara range of wines.

Great wines begin in the Vineyard and the wines produced at Tintara begin in some of Australia’s best vineyards. The fruit is carefully selected to ensure it reflects distinctive regional characteristics, true varietal expression and has intensity and maturity of flavour.

This approach has consistently provided Hardy’s with an array of winemaking options allowing the pursuit of new quality standards. Most recently, the Tintara Cellars range was released capturing the winery’s unique historical strength introduced by Thomas Hardy - regional blending to gain flavour complexity and completeness.

The “Cellars” varietal wines complement their McLaren Vale heritage with the fruit sourced from cooler climate premium regions within South Australia, predominantly Adelaide Hills, Padthaway or Coonawarra. These wines are crafted into an elegant style, released for current drinking and ideal with foods.

Walk around the rustic ironstone buildings to soak up the historic ambience of Tintara. The heart of the Cellar Door building dates back to the 1880s and the Old Bond Store, originally stables for the flour-mill, was built in the 1850s.

You can stroll around the picturesque and beautifully perfumed cottage gardens, and pause for a moment to pay homage to the Father of the South Australian wine industry at his memorial bronze bust in front of the historic cellars. No one has done more for the South Australian wine industry than this greatman.

Or just sit beneath the magnificent canopy of the 140 year old Moreton Bay Fig tree and imagine how different life was when the tree was a mere sapling and Thomas Hardy’s empire had just begun at McLaren Vale.

Our Cellar Door offers a full range of premium Tintara wines for tasting and sale, plus some wines exclusively from the cellar door, as well as making available for purchase a range of local produce.

Whilst at Tintara why not drop in and visit one of Australia’s most renowned artists - David Dridan - in his own gallary which showcases not only David’s personal works, but those also of a variety of leading artists from the local Fleurieu Region. Dridan’s Fine Arts is located right next to Cellar Door on the grounds of Tintara.

Tintara Winery is open everyday 10am to 4.30pm. The winery is closed Christmas Day and Good Friday.
