d'arenberg Winesd'Arenberg Wines: At McLaren Vale, in the Fleurieu Peninsula region of South Australia

d’Arenberg has become a famous name in Australian wine by being strikingly individual. Since 1912, our vineyards in McLaren Vale, South Australia, have been tended by our family, the Osborns.

Our vineyards lie just 40 kilometres south of Adelaide, between the southern Mount Lofty Ranges and the Gulf St. Vincent, with the McLaren Vale terroir benefiting from the cooling maritime influence. Many of our Shiraz and Grenache dry-grown vines date from the 19th century.

The first of the renowned d’Arenberg red stripe labels was released in 1959 by d’Arry Osborn, who has overseen 64 consecutive vintages at the winery. d’Arry’s son, Chester, Chief Winemaker since 1984, has the red d’Arenberg stripe in his blood, making both red and white wines that capture the small-batch character of this winery, and the true flavour of the McLaren Vale region.

d’Arenberg is a rustic place, and our approach to winemaking is old-fashioned. We handcraft our wines using traditional basket-presses, and in the case of our reds, small batch fermenters combined with the age-old technique of foot-treading.

Our reds are harmonious, very individual wines, with a wide spectrum of fruit flavours and seamless balance. d’Arenberg whites are known for their individuality, fragrance, intensity, and their unmistakeable varietal fruit flavours.

d’Arenberg’s art of being different extends to a range of fortified and dessert wines, which have legendary status worldwide, and to operating d’Arry’s Verandah, one of South Australia’s most loved and highly awarded restaurants, set on a picturesque hilltop, with our cellar-door adjoining.
