There’s something very serene about watching a sunset at Lake Bonney. It might be the calmness of the water, the placid surrounds, away from the rush of traffic, where the sound of the magpies in the trees is the only thing you can hear. It makes a trip to Barmera the most relaxing of holidays.

The Barmera Lake Resort Motel makes full use of the lake frontage, with rooms looking out onto the lake and a new al fresco café providing lakeside lunches and dinners all year round.

The Motel has been under new management for just under a year and it has been extensively renovated to provide guests with a more pleasant stay. Of the 30 rooms in the Motel, 12 of the rooms have been completely refurbished. All existing fittings were stripped and the rooms were fitted with new carpets, rendered walls, remote-controlled televisions and large, glass sliding doors that open out onto the shores of the Lake.

All rooms at the Motel have TV, ceiling fans, air conditioning and en suite comprising toilet and shower. There is also ample security for vehicles, as each room has its own undercover car parking space directly outside.

There are many facilities available for guests’ use to allow them to relax and have fun without leaving the complex. A games room at the Motel includes a pool table and a table tennis table and if you’re in the mood for something a little more physically demanding, don’t forget to pack the racquet for a set or two on the full-sized tennis court.

For a leisurely afternoon, you can pass the hours in the Motel’s 20m swimming pool, before gathering for a poolside meal and a few drinks around one of the on-site barbecues.

If you’re not in the mood for snags and chops and would like something a little more tasty, then the Motel’s new al fresco restaurant, Café Mudz, might be more your style. Café Mudz can seat 60 inside and 30 on the al fresco terrace that overlooks Lake Bonney. The menu has everything from pasta, steaks and barramundi to foccacias and bruschetta, all at reasonable prices.

Water skiing is one of the most popular pastimes on Lake Bonney and there is a boat ramp nearby, easily accessible to motel guests. Yachting, canoeing and jet skiing are also fun water activities and staff at the Motel can assist in the hire of water sport equipment, or in booking a cruise on the nearby Murray River.

Barmera is conveniently located in the heart of the Riverland, so most of its features are reachable from the Barmera Lake Resort Motel. They even have a limousine for hire if you want to tour the local wineries in style.

The Cobdogla Irrigation Museum, Lock 3 and Monash Adventure Park are only short distances from Barmera and the Barmera Lake Resort Motel is the closest motel to the popular Banrock Station Wine and Wetland Centre. Easy to find, the Barmera Lake Resort Motel is located on Lakeside Drive in Barmera. For more information, call 8588 2555.
